Steam and Bethesda's relationship looks to shaky as the latter confirmed that their Fallout 76 B.E.T.A and full game will only be available at Bethesda.Net.
Fallout 76 will not be launching on Steam |
The Fallout 76 FAQ also states that the Fallout 76 B.E.T.A and full game will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC but via Bethesda.net only. The Fallout 76 purchase page also don't bear a Steam logo. Instead it has a generic PC game logo.
This may be a part of Bethesda's campaign to push a more widespread usage of their own launcher. The decision to ditch the largest PC game distributor is both a courageous and risky move. We already saw this before though with Fallout Shelter being an exclusive Bethesda.net release in July 2016 but was then launched on Steam on March 2017.
The beta FAQ also included an interesting piece of information. The B.E.T.A version of the game may end up as the full version of the game if all goes to Bethesda's plans which means B.E.T.A players can carry their progress over to the retail version of the game.
The B.E.T.A phase of Fallout 76 is set to start around October. Pre-ordering the game will earn you a ticket to join it as well.
