E3 2018: Cyberpunk 2077 is an Open World, First-Person, RPG

CD Projekt RED follows up the successful Witcher 3 with a first-person, open world, RPG in Cyberpunk 2077. Wait, what? By the looks of it, most of it is FPS.
Cyberpunk 2077

They showed a demo of Cyberpunk 2077 at E3 2018. By the looks of it, you will only see your beloved character, male or female, during cutscenes. Everything else during gameplay is done in first person except for the driving parts. In the demo, there are also stats that alter your abilities and weapons. Damage calculations shares some inspiration to other RPG shooters such as The Division and Destiny 2. Enemy will have visible health bars above their heads with numbers popping in and out as you deal damage.

You might be saying, "Oh, so it's all mindless shooting and grinding in just a different setting?". Well, we can't be so sure about that as they also showcased some versatility in terms of combat. In the demo, the main character procured some arm blades which means that there will be melee combat as well.

In terms of the RPG elements, such as classes, there are no indications yet as to what classes are available or if there are going to classes at all. The main character showcased was built like a cyberninja a la Warframe with the ability to wall jump, double jump and assassinate enemys with one-shot stealth kills.

Since we mentioned driving earlier, there will be vehicular action and combat as well. During the demo, the player was able to drive around the city with no restrictions then a random encounter with a gang triggered. The player's teammate took the will while he leaned out the window and started ginning down the gang members.

CD Projekt RED already responded to people calling Cyberpunk 2077 an FPS. They call it a "first person RPG". What's the difference though? Not much. In Cyberpunk 2077, there are guns, cover, gunfights and these are all done in a first person POV. Hence, it's classified as FPS. However, it also has an open world, vast story, dialogues, exploration and progression systems akin to an RPG. Whatever the case maybe, Cyberpunk 2077 is gearing up to be a great game.
